Federal law suspends your eligibility for federal student aid if you have been convicted for the possession or sale of illegal drugs.  However, this is only the case if the offense occurred during a period of enrollment when you were receiving federal student aid (grants, loans, and/or work-study).  Additionally, a past conviction does not automatically mean that you are ineligible for federal student aid.  You should still complete and submit your FAFSA as you might qualify for aid from other sources.  Keep in mind, you don’t need to count convictions that have been removed from your record or that occurred before you turned 18, unless you were tried as an adult.
